How to set the Sharepoint culture

For those trying to set Sharepoints culture using web.config, you might have noticed that the <globalization> tag has no influence at all.

Instead of using the <globalization> tag, Sharepoint offers a simple way to set the culture using the Site settings.

Go to the Site settings page, and under Site administration, choose Regional Settings. Set the Locale to your desired culture.

The chosen culture will be represented in .NET's System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture. Here you can also find the LCID (the commonly known 1033 in "en-US").

Ofcourse, it would be great if this could be done automatically for each site collection in an application. Unfortunately this is not supported (yet).

I found a good blog that explains: lumbgaps.blogspot.com
